French Senator Sparks Outrage with Controversial Remarks on Veiled School Chaperones
Thursday 31 October 2019, by
In the midst of the debate, on Tuesday, October 29, in the Senate, on the LR bill aimed at banning the wearing of religious symbols by parent chaperones during school outings, the Senator of Moselle, Jean-Louis Masson, did not hesitate to compare the veiled mothers to "Halloween witches". The controversy is raging, the Internet users are unleashed.
"Is it normal for your child, your grandchildren, who are not used to rubbing shoulders with veiled obscurantism, to be surrounded during trips by veiled women who are doing communitarianism?", unleashes Jean-Louis Masson, non-registered Senator.
"We cry misery on the mother of the family. She only had to not put on her veil and then the problem was solved," said Jean-Louis Masson, thus alluding to the veiled woman attacked by Julien Odoul, the RN elected official, at the Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, on October 11.
He drives the point home: "We could surround [the children] with anything. [...] We could also do Halloween. We’ll bring out Halloween witches for school trips". "We still have the right to have children who are not polluted by communitarian proselytism.... If they’re not happy, let them go back where they came from," concluded the Senator of Moselle.
This statement shocked many of his colleagues, including Moselle Ludovic Mendes, LREM deputy. He published Jean-Louis Masson’s statements on Twitter. "How can an elected official of the Republic make such violent remarks against our fellow citizens?" he was outraged.
