French Senator Proposes Cutting Benefits for Women Wearing Full-Face Veils

Bruno Retailleau, President of the "Les Républicains" Group in the Senate, has proposed sanctions against women who wear the full veil, "in case of recidivism".
The leader of the Republicans made this proposal during a debate on the wearing of the full veil in France. Bruno Retailleau suggested "removing social benefits" from these women who repeat the offense.
Speaking on BFM, the politician based his proposal on the Law of October 11, 2010, which created a shock wave in the Paris region. This provision prohibits any concealment of the face in a public space.
Bruno Retailleau had mentioned a few months ago his willingness to vote in favor of banning the veil for escorts during school outings.
"It is a question of extending the law which prohibits a teacher or a teacher from wearing an ostentatious religious symbol in a public school to the escorts of these school outings, which are only an extension of the school time. In my opinion, these escorts are, for the duration of the school outing, auxiliary public service and the laws on secularism must apply to them," he had stressed.
