French Schools in Morocco Face Uncertainty as Reopening Dates Diverge

Classes resume in France on May 11, while Morocco has decided to maintain confinement until May 20. What will be the course of action for the French missions in Morocco, knowing that they are located in cities that have recorded high rates of contamination?

By decreeing the closure of schools, the Moroccan authorities have put in place a system that allows students to receive distance learning courses until May 20, if in the meantime, confinement is not once again extended. At the current stage of things, the question of postponing or not the exams has not yet been settled, but the fear of a "blank year" has been completely ruled out by the Ministry of National Education.

However, the question that arises is the fate of these 40,000 students in the French missions in Morocco, since the end of confinement in the Kingdom is scheduled for May 20, while classes resume on May 11 in France. Questioned on the matter, a well-informed source within the Ministry of National Education confided to Hespress that, by law, "the French missions established in Morocco, follow the French system and not the Moroccan system, whether it is regarding courses or exams. "These establishments have no connection with the Ministry of National Education, apart from the aspect of Arabic subjects," she specified.

However, being located in high-risk areas, the French missions present in the Kingdom will be required to "comply" with the measures decided by the Moroccan authorities, and will have to wait until May 20 to know if there is deconfinement or not, specifies the same source.
