French School Principal in Morocco Suspended Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

The French embassy in Morocco has decided to suspend the principal of the Victor Hugo high school in Marrakech from his duties, in order to put an end to the student demonstrations and to deepen the investigation into the sexual harassment of which he is accused.
The Victor Hugo high school has seen several student gatherings this week, with students skipping classes and accusing Hervé Magot, the school principal, of sexual harassment. The Embassy has decided to suspend him from his duties, pending the conclusions of the ongoing investigation.
According to Al Akhbar, officials from the French Embassy in Morocco have tried to calm the anger of the students by promising to bring the principal’s case to justice if the facts alleged by the students are confirmed.
Students at the school claim that six young girls, including a minor, have been victims of sexual harassment by the principal, but without providing any evidence. According to the same source, the latter continues to deny the accusations against him.
"At the present time, it is impossible to announce whether the facts are real. We do not know if a complaint has been filed (by both parties) and so at this stage it is the word of one against the word of the other (harassment or defamation)," says the Union of the Parents’ Council (UCPE).
