French Retirees Stranded in Morocco for Months Finally Return Home by Ferry

Blocked in their motorhome for more than two months in Morocco, Christian, 70, and Josiane, 71, two Ploufraganais residing in Val-André, have managed to board a boat in Tangier to reach Marseille.

The retired couple had left in January for a trip to Morocco, but found themselves stuck at the border for two months with thousands of other French motorhome owners. "At first, we took it lightly, we said to ourselves: well, an extra month of vacation, it’s not that bad. Plus, we love Morocco!", confides to Actu.fr Christian Le Couster. "We were confined in our motorhome, on a parking lot, by the sea between Agadir and Casablanca. We were not allowed to move from there," says the septuagenarian.

Christian and Josiane are lovers of Morocco and its diversity. "The encounter with people, especially. They are so kind here. [...] The locals are really adorable: an association came to distribute couscous once a week and the local farmers gave us vegetables," testifies Christian. "But I’m not sure we’ll be back next year!", he jokes.

After an aborted attempt to leave on May 16, arranged by their son-in-law to return to France, and with no news, neither from the embassy nor from the company, the Ploufraganais couple were able to obtain a ticket for a boat from Tangier to Marseille, specifies the same source. "This is the first time a boat has been specially chartered for Marseille and that the government is moving: they diverted a ferry that was supposed to make the Marseille-Corsica route," rejoices Christian. The couple is already on their way.
