French Retirees Flock to Morocco for Affordable Winter Escape

Inflation hitting France is pushing retirees to leave the country for Morocco, where they have the opportunity to spend a less costly and especially very sunny winter.
Many French retirees are returning to Agadir, one of the best Moroccan destinations, this winter. "80% are French. This year is specific for the French. Flown from your home, the swallows are starting to come a little," jokes Jamal Immel, director of the Imi Ouaddar campsite, to franceinfo.
Spending the winter in Morocco is a tradition for Marie-Claude Breton, a French retiree. She leaves Clermont-Ferrand to join the kingdom every year. She owns an 80 square meter mobile home. The French retiree is already in Morocco with her friends. The latter are also in love with the destination.
One of Marie-Claude’s friends, who came from the Mâconnais region, confides: "The sun, the beach, the friends, the relationships we make, everything. You have to think that in winter when you buy warm clothes in France, it costs more than shorts and t-shirts here. Flip-flops are cheaper than a pair of fur-lined boots." Morocco also allows French retirees to save on housing, food and dining.
