French Retirees Among 1,500 RV Owners Stranded in Morocco Amid Travel Restrictions

While they had left France in mid-February, Maurice and Marie-Madeleine Guilloux, two residents of Vitré, find themselves stuck on their campsite in Sidi Ifni, 1,000 km south of Tangier. They are full of uncertainty about their return.

The two motorhome enthusiasts are tired of being stuck in Morocco for more than two and a half months. They are not the only ones living this situation. "Although our politicians have said loud and clear that they have taken care of our case, it should be known that there are still nearly 1,500 motorhomes waiting to return," the Vitré couple confides to Ouest France.

Maurice and Marie-Madeleine Guilloux have tried many times to return to France by boat. Without success. They had bought a ticket for June 1st. An Italian company was to ensure their transport from Tangier to Sète. "The connection did not take place. The company told us that we were a priority on two exceptional connections scheduled for June 2 and 9, but we were not selected," explains the couple.

They then try a new attempt. Maurice and Marie-Madeleine Guilloux turn to a Spanish company that will operate five connections between Tangier and Malaga, Spain, from June 5 to 9. Since then, the Vitré residents have been waiting for a phone call to find out if they have been selected. A call that is slow to come. "In addition, the French Consulate in charge of monitoring the repatriation operations is unreachable," they lament. "To this day, we still don’t know when and how we will return. We have to live with this uncertainty day by day..." laments the couple.
