New French Residency Rules Impact Moroccan Retirees’ Benefits

Important change for beneficiaries of the solidarity allowance for the elderly (Aspa) or a former minimum old-age allowance! Since the beginning of this year, the residence condition in France to receive these benefits has been tightened.
Until now, it was necessary to reside in France for at least 6 months per year to receive the Aspa or a minimum old-age allowance. From now on, you will have to justify a presence on French territory for at least 9 months during the calendar year. Moroccan retirees who stayed in Morocco for many months will therefore have to change their habits.
Controls will be carried out each year to verify compliance with this new residence condition, warns the French administration. If the person concerned does not meet the residence requirements, they risk the suspension of the allowance and may have to repay the sums unduly received.
The letter sent to many Moroccan retirees in France reminds them that to avoid any inconvenience, they must not forget to declare any changes in resources, family situation or address to the pension fund.
