French Nationals Top List of Foreign Inmates in Moroccan Prisons

1,046 foreign nationals, of 69 different nationalities, are detained in Moroccan prisons. With 131 prisoners, the French are in first place, followed by Senegalese, with 92 detainees, and Guineans, with 77. In 2018, several extradition requests were received by Morocco.
According to the Annual Report of the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the authorities of the countries of origin are kept up to date on the situation of detainees prosecuted in criminal cases. Also, writes Assabah, a work of consultation with the various public prosecutor’s offices of the Kingdom is regularly undertaken, in order to ensure the follow-up of the arrests and convictions of the accused, and to inform the relevant consular services.
On the other hand, the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office attaches great importance to arrest warrants, issued by the courts, at the international or national level. In Morocco, the Court of First Instance of Nador issued 16 international arrest warrants, followed by the Court of Tangier, with 10 arrest warrants and Rabat.
In 2018, adds the daily, as part of extradition operations, Morocco received two "controlled delivery" orders from the International Criminal Courts. This operation requires the remote monitoring of a drug shipment by the authorities of the country of departure, until its final destination. This makes it possible to arrest the real criminals, knowing that the convoys are often transported by individuals, foreign to the smuggling network, and not by the real members.
