French Muslim Leader: Criticism of Islam Compatible with Free Speech

During his hearing before the National Assembly committee, Mohammed Moussaoui, president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), stated that the French who want to criticize Islam have the right to do so in complete freedom.
When questioned about the draft law "strengthening republican principles", he replied that Islam readily accepts that criticisms be leveled against it, including in its foundations, its beliefs, its creed. "This is not incompatible with freedom of expression. It is fundamental, it is an important tool and value for Muslims as well," specified the official.
"I think our fellow citizens who want to criticize our religion, its foundations, or who want to be surprised by certain practices have the right to do so in complete freedom. And Muslims should not be offended by this," he added, stressing that Muslims "must, however, respond with dignity, in an intellectual debate".
