French Muslim Group Condemns Islamophobic Rhetoric After Annecy Attack

The Union of Mosques of France (UMF) expressed its compassion on Friday to the families whose young children were victims the day before of a knife attack in Annecy, denouncing the many "political" and "unhealthy" recoveries that point the finger at Islam and immigration.
The announcement of the Syrian nationality of the aggressor who claims to be a Christian has sparked a wave of Islamophobic comments, some believing that the latter would not be a "true Christian" and that "the modus operandi of Christians is not to kill babies like that with a knife". This kind of statement hides "a deliberate desire to reinforce the prejudices and stereotypes suffered by Muslims in France. To talk about the modus operandi of Christians, as if there was one, is in itself an unbearable offense to our Christian brothers," denounces the UMF.
For the Muslim federation, "violence has neither religion nor nationality. A true Christian does not kill in this way, a true Muslim or a true Jew neither." "It is time to realize that no religion teaches its practitioners savagery. All religions consider that the murder of a person is equivalent to the murder of all humanity and the preservation of the life of a single person is equivalent to the preservation of the life of all humanity," specifies the UMF. No one "should be worried about the actions of others, even if they are of the same real or supposed religion".
