French Muslim Council Urges COVID-19 Precautions for Eid al-Adha Celebrations

In a few days, Muslims will celebrate Eid Al Adha 1441/2020, a festival that takes place this year under particular conditions due to Covid-19. The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) takes the opportunity to address the faithful with a list of measures to be respected so that the festival takes place under good conditions.
As could be expected, the wearing of masks, physical distancing and barrier gestures occupy an important place in the list of precautions to be taken. The Eid al-Adha festival, which is to take place on July 31, 2020, is a celebration that involves large gatherings at each stage, such as the Eid prayer, the sacrificial act in the slaughterhouses, and family meals. According to the CFCM, "the gradual exit from the state of health emergency in no way means the end of the Covid-19 pandemic".
The council reminds that "the Eid al-Adha prayer and the Friday prayer must not bring together more than 5,000 people even when they are organized in non-enclosed outdoor spaces". Hugs and other signs that can prevent distancing are to be avoided. The Feast of the Sheep celebrates above all sacrifice and sharing. The CFCM calls for compassion and solidarity without putting oneself in danger.
With regard to the sacrificial act which can take place over the three days of Eid al-Adha, the Council recommends "sacrifice by delegation in order to limit the attendance of slaughterhouses".
