French Mosques Implement New Capacity Rules Amid COVID-19 Restrictions

The resumption of religious ceremonies in places of worship in France must now face new rules. In a press release, the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) indicates that the number of occupants and the distance between them have been modified.
In a previous press release, the CFCM had limited the maximum number of participants in places of worship to 30. But this figure is no longer current. The Council stated that two spaces must be left empty between participants or groups of participants sharing the same accommodation. It also called on those in charge to arrange the faithful in such a way that one row out of two is unoccupied. These new rules, already in force, will evolve from December 15, 2020.
This new method offers, according to the CFCM, the possibility for mosques that wish to do so, to organize the Friday prayer. However, it will be necessary to strictly respect these new restrictions. In addition, for more safety and protection of the faithful, the Council suggests that the resumption of the Friday prayer be postponed until December 15, 2020. For the CFCM, it is important to make a gradual resumption, in strict compliance with preventive measures, for the safety of all.
