French Media Watchdog Escalates Case Against Far-Right Pundit Zemmour and LCI Channel

Friday 25 October 2019, by Bladi.net

While he is being prosecuted for "public insults" and "public incitement to discrimination, hatred or violence", following the full and live broadcast on September 28 of his speech on LCI, Eric Zemmour is seeing his situation become more complicated. Indeed, it is the turn of the Superior Audiovisual Council (CSA) to transmit to the Public Prosecutor new "elements in its possession".

According to Le Monde, these new elements provided by the Superior Audiovisual Council are intended to feed the investigation against Eric Zemmour. The CSA press release did not spare the news channel of the TF1 group, for having failed to respect its obligations in terms of discriminatory remarks, by broadcasting Zemmour’s speech.

This anti-immigration and Islamophobic speech by Zemmour was broadcast live during the "Convention of the Right" in mid-September. However, despite this precedent which has already earned him a conviction, Zemmour has taken on the role of editorialist in the daily program, "Face à l’info". But here again, Eric Zemmour has been talked about for "homophobic" remarks during the October 15 show, and "revisionist" for the one on October 21.

Despite all these entanglements, Eric Zemmour triggered a new controversy on Wednesday evening. "When General Bugeaud arrives in Algeria, he begins to massacre Muslims, and even some Jews. Well, I’m on the side of General Bugeaud today. That’s what it means to be French!", he launched.

Within the CNews editorial team, the arrival of Eric Zemmour is not unanimous. In addition, several personalities, such as Valérie Trierweiler and Jacques Attali, have chosen to boycott the channel, as have the CGT and La France insoumise, notes the same source.
