French Media Stirs Controversy with Comments on Morocco's World Cup Team

As the match between Morocco and France in the semi-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup scheduled for Wednesday, December 14 at the Al Bayt Stadium approaches, the French press is not kind to the Atlas Lions.

"It’s a European team that will face the French team" on Wednesday. In the eyes of the French press, the Moroccan team is "European". A mockery and bad joke when we know that the members of the Moroccan team are all Moroccans - even if there are dual nationals among them - while the French team is composed of more than 90% of a mix of foreign nationalities, mainly of African origin. The parents of the latter left their countries to emigrate to France for economic reasons or opted for illegal immigration.

Only Benjamin Pavard and Florian Thauvin are "native" French playing for France at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The other 22 players have been naturalized French. Prisnel Kimpembé is of a Congolese father and a Haitian mother. Raphael Varane has a father from the island of Martinique in northern Venezuela. Ibrahima Konaté is of Malian origin. As for Jules Condé, his father is of Beninese origin. William Saliba has a Lebanese father and a Cameroonian mother. Jordan Verito’s mother is of Norwegian origin. Hugo Lloris is of a father of Catalan origin, Alphonse Areola, as well as his compatriot Steve Mandanda, are of Filipino parents.

Lucas and Teo Hernandez’s mother is Spanish. Dayot Upamecano is from Guinea-Bissau, Eduardo Camavinga from Angola, Youssouf Fofana from Côte d’Ivoire, Kingsley Coman from Guadeloupe. Mathieu Guendouzi has a Moroccan father, Aurélien Tchoaméni is of Cameroonian origin, Antoine Griezmann of German father and Portuguese mother. As for Olivier Giroud, he is of Italian origin. Kylian Mbappé, for his part, has a Cameroonian father and an Algerian mother. Ousmane Dembélé’s father is Malian and his mother is Senegalese-Mauritanian (and married to a Moroccan). Christopher Ngungu is of Congolese origin, while Adrien Rabiot is of Algerian origin.
