French Man Sentenced for Psychological Abuse of Moroccan Wife, Hindering Integration

The perpetrator of psychological violence against his Moroccan-born wife, a 40-year-old man residing in Vesoul (Haute-Saône) was sentenced on Tuesday to five months in prison with a suspended sentence.
The defendant was exercising violence on his partner, regularly insulting or belittling her. Convicted once before in 2018 for the same acts, he would have changed his method, going so far as to isolate his partner to prevent her from learning French, a precious key that could have allowed her to emancipate herself.
The victim, for her part, described to the police and before the prosecution the hell she lived in the privacy of the marital home, in Vesoul. She was prescribed 10 days of ITT for an "anxio-depressive syndrome", an "advanced psychological distress", a "state of stress, mental rumination, guilt".
After hearing all the parties, the Vesoul court decided to sentence the man to 6 months in prison with a suspended sentence. He will have to pay 1 euro in damages to his ex-wife.
