French Lawmakers Propose Visa Reform to Address Moroccan Consular Concerns

Two French deputies, M’jid El Guerrab and Sira Sylla, have tabled a parliamentary bill on visa policy, with a view to facilitating the process. On Tuesday, January 12, they presented a detailed report in which they emphasize the effects of the centralization of visa processing in Morocco on local Moroccan consular agents.
The two French deputies took the time to meet on several occasions with the locally hired agents, who are directly concerned by the closure of the visa services. They came to the conclusion that these workers are experiencing the situation very badly and are quite traumatized by it. Even if the reasons given to explain these reorganizations are intended to efficiently respond to the demand in record time, the agents have the impression that it is a gradual shrinking of the consular services, reports Atlasinfo.
According to the proposed consolidation, the visa services of Tangier and Fez will be merged on the Rabat platform, while the services of Agadir and Marrakech will now fall under Casablanca. For M’jid El Guerrab and Sira Sylla, before making such a decision, it was important to assess the impact of these consolidation decisions on the fluidity of the service and on the duration of visa issuance in Morocco.
For the two deputies, this new structure will have no impact on applicants who will still file their visa application with the same external service providers. The passports will be sent by the operators to Rabat or Casablanca before being sent, accompanied if necessary by the visa, to the operators for delivery to the applicants, specifies the same source.
