French Lawmaker Urges Consulate in Dakhla to Serve Expats in Southern Morocco

M’jid el Guerrab, MP of the Agir ensemble group (Presidential Majority), advocates the opening of a French consulate in Dakhla. This will facilitate administrative procedures for French nationals living in Dakhla and Laâyoune, whom he represents in the National Assembly, and will spare them from having to go to Agadir.
"We will have to find a formula (a diplomatic office, a consulate or at least an honorary consulate) to allow French nationals living in southern Morocco to have access to all French administration: for passports, identity cards, marriages and all civil status matters," the MP said in an interview on Monday with the MAP.
The member of the presidential majority congratulates Moroccan diplomacy, which has recorded "great victories", particularly on the Sahara issue and its return to the African Union, stressing that "France was the first country to recognize and support the Moroccan autonomy plan on the Sahara in 2007". This act is a recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, he rejoiced.
"Certainly the opening of a consulate is the responsibility of the French diplomatic authorities, but as a deputy representing the legislative power and the French people, I am in favor of the opening of a French representation in Dakhla," he concluded.
