The trial of the 40-year-old Moroccan Latifa Chadli and her husband, a jihadist from Toulouse, and the mother (59 years old) of the latter opens on Monday, January 16 before the Special Assize Court of Paris. The couple will be tried for terrorist criminal conspiracy (AMT), while the nearly sexagenarian is being prosecuted at liberty for "terrorist financing".
Under judicial supervision, Latifa Chadli will appear free this Monday before the Special Assize Court of Paris for terrorist criminal conspiracy (AMT). Her husband, the Toulouse jihadist Jonathan Geffroy, 40, appears in custody for the same charge. The latter’s mother, Denise P., 59, also appears free, under judicial supervision, for "terrorist financing", reports La Dépêche. She is accused of having sent several thousand euros to her son when he was in the Iraqi-Syrian zone.
Latifa Chadli and Jonathan Geffroy got married in Morocco after the Toulousain left his first wife with whom he had arrived in the kingdom. After Morocco, the couple settles in Egypt in February 2014. The idea of joining Syria crosses this Toulousain converted to Islam in 2007. His wish materializes in February 2015. He joins the ranks of the Anwar al-Awlaki katiba (brigade), a detachment of the Islamic State (IS) grouping together a few dozen French people including the brothers Jean-Michel and Fabien Clain, also from Toulouse, two IS propaganda leaders.
In Iraq, Jonathan joins the elite Tariq Ibn Zyad katiba, a brigade created by Abdelilah Himich, one of the most senior French fighters of the IS, known by the war name of Abou Souleymane al-Faransi, the Frenchman. In early 2017, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured him as he "was trying to flee Syria with his wife and two children (one born in Turkey in June 2017 after the couple’s arrest). He will be handed over to the French authorities in September of the same year.
