French Interior Minister Threatens Mosques Refusing to Sign Republican Values Charter

Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, threatens to search the mosques that would refuse to sign the "charter of the principles for the Islam of France". To date, the Coordination Committee of Turkish Muslims of France (CCMTF), the Islamic Confederation Milli Görüs (CIMG) and Faith & Practice, three of the eight federations of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) have still not signed the text.
"We will look particularly at what is happening in the places of worship they manage, because we will not have a trembling hand when they have actions or words here and there that are against the values of the Republic," the French minister said on France Inter, considering that the State can "no longer discuss with people" (leaders of federations or mosques) "who cannot write on a piece of paper that they are perfectly compatible with the laws of the Republic, that the laws of the Republic are superior to the law of God".
The law against separatism gives the State extremely strong powers to fight not only terrorism but also what can be called ’separatism’, Islamist ideology, hammered Mr. Darmanin. For example, for the moment, the government cannot close places of worship if there is no direct link with terrorism."
The French minister "also encourages everyone to look at this text (charter) which is online on the website of the Great Mosque of Paris and the CFCM. It is a very republican and very important text and obviously Muslims are perfectly compatible with the Republic."
