French Fugitive Sentenced to 15 Years for Child Rape After Capture in Morocco

The Finistère Assize Court last Thursday sentenced a Breton who had fled to Morocco in 2006 to 15 years in prison for rapes on his daughter and niece.

New conviction for the Breton who had fled on the fourth day of his trial before the Finistère Assize Court in February 2006. At the time, he had emptied his bank accounts and bought a one-way ticket to Casablanca. He was accused of rapes, attempted rapes and sexual assaults on his daughter and niece who were 4 and 11 years old respectively, reports Le Parisien. A default judgment had been handed down: 13 years of criminal detention, and an arrest warrant had been issued against him.

In Morocco, he was arrested for acts of pedophilia, "criminal association" and illegal "stay". In May 2013, the Casablanca court had sentenced him to 12 years in prison. He had appeared before the court as a journalist. He had had an intimate relationship with two young women employed as domestic workers and then solicited meetings with girls around ten years old from them. The grandmother of one of the victims had filed a complaint against the Breton after her granddaughter’s statements.

End of the run. The 67-year-old man is back in France where he is being tried again before the Finistère Assize Court. On Monday, the first day of the opening of his trial, he did not admit the facts. On Thursday, the verdict was handed down: the accused was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
