French Football League Launches Anti-Racism Campaign with New Video Clip

Saturday 11 January 2020, by Ginette

Racism in football stadiums is a concern for the Professional Football League (LFP). It proceeded on Wednesday, January 8 to launch a clip to call for the fight against this scourge that compromises the relationship between supporters and players.

"In football, the only color that counts is that of your team." This is the slogan of the clip against racism in football stadiums, with which the league hopes to raise awareness among supporters. It invites them to report any discriminatory acts so that this fight can be effectively waged.

For Nathalie Boy de la Tour, President of the LFP, "thanks to its media exposure, football can reach a large part of the French people. By reaffirming its determination to fight racism, French professional football is part of a dynamic initiated several years ago and accelerated with the implementation of the LFP’s strategic plan in April 2017".

In December 2019, the Italian Football League had initiated a campaign against racism, but the strategies adopted were strongly criticized. The use of a painting representing three monkeys was perceived by many as an insult, even though the league officials had stated that the work was intended to "defend the values of integration, multiculturalism and brotherhood".
