French Family with Special Needs Child Stranded in Morocco Amid Border Closure

James Davy, Virginie Malossi and their three children, including Lyna, who has Rett syndrome, find themselves stuck in Morocco due to the closure of borders. A situation that has become untenable for this French family who do not have the means to take a return flight.

While Virginie Malossi and James Davy had planned to spend 90 days in Morocco with their three children, including the youngest, Lyna, 6 years old, who is affected by a rare disease, Rett syndrome, they are stuck in Agadir following the closure of borders, reports Actu.fr. "We had taken our round-trip ticket but the company has now suspended its crossings. We contacted the French consulate, the priority being to protect Lyna and ensure the follow-up of her care. A doctor from the consulate was put in contact with us, which is why we are in Agadir, better equipped in terms of care," say James Davy and Virginie Malossi.

But the care chain that little Lyna needs to live has been interrupted. The reason? The Family Allowance Fund of Lot-et-Garonne no longer provides benefits beyond three months spent abroad. "Even Lyna’s disability allowance has been suspended, say the Marmandais. We no longer have any help. And we are stuck in Morocco." The Defenders of the Right association in Marmande is handling the case but the only possibility open to them is to return to France so that the child can receive care. "But the other companies are taking an astronomical sum that we don’t have, laments Virginie Malossi. We are waiting for the borders to reopen which are closed."

James Davy and Virginie Malossi see their financial resources dwindling. An online collection has been launched via leetchi to help them.
