French Expats in Morocco Adapt to Life Under COVID-19 Lockdown

Not all French people left Morocco after the announcement of the first case of coronavirus contamination. Some have decided to stay and face, like the Moroccans, the coronavirus pandemic.
There are more than 54,000 French nationals living in Morocco. Le Figaro interviewed a consultant based in Casablanca since 1995. "My family is here, even though my parents are still in France; so I don’t plan to go back," she testifies. During this period of confinement decreed by the Moroccan authorities, she "continues to travel regularly to her main client, who has organized telework for all his employees, with the exception of his management committee."
In Morocco, we also find French educational institutions that welcome more than 37,000 students and employ a large part of the French community. Garlonn Dupoirier is a teacher at the Gauthier school in Casablanca. And even though the school has been closed since March 16, the teacher says she is working from home. "There is no question of going back, especially since, according to the information I have, the situation is worse in France," she explains. She only plans to return to France if one of her loved ones were to die, because even if she were sick, she would certainly not be able to see them, Le Figaro points out, indicating that the "French living in Morocco are therefore vigilant, but quite little worried".
