French Energy Firm Voltalia to Build Two Solar Plants in Morocco’s Noor PV II Program

Volta Maroc, a subsidiary of the French group Voltalia, a company owned by the Mulliez family, better known for its Auchan, Decathlon, Kiabi, Pimkie, or Leroy Merlin stores, will carry out two solar power plants in the kingdom as part of the implementation of phase 1 of the Noor PV II solar photovoltaic program.
The Noor PV II solar photovoltaic program will soon take shape. Masen has launched an international call for tenders for its phase 1 which consists of 15 solar power plants spread across different regions of the kingdom, reports Challenge. This project is capable of generating a capacity of 333 megawatts, or even 400 MW. Volta Maroc, one of the bidders, has won two lots. The construction of Ain Beni Mathar (in the province of Jerrada), which is the power plant that produces the most energy for the mega-project, with 69 MW, and the 48 MW solar project located in Guercif have been entrusted to it. The eleven other power plants with a capacity between 36 and 48 MW will be carried out by three other companies Taqa Morocco, Enel Green Power Morocco and AMEA Power.
Volta Maroc’s main activity is the supply of renewable electricity at a competitive price to large electricity consumers. With the award of two lots in phase 1 of the Noor PV II solar photovoltaic program, the Moroccan subsidiary of Voltalia is entering the Moroccan renewable energy market in a big way.
