French Drug Trafficking Suspect Arrested in Northern Morocco After 7-Year Manhunt
Friday 21 June 2019, by
A French national of Algerian origin was the subject of an international arrest warrant since 2012. He has just been arrested near Larache, in northern Morocco. He is being prosecuted for drug and psychotropic trafficking. He seemed to be continuing his trafficking in the Kingdom.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) specifies, in a press release, that this arrest was carried out on May 16, 2019, in the coastal area, near Tnin Sidi El Yamani, in the vicinity of Larache.
The individual in question was accompanied by another person. They had in their possession geo-positioning devices (GPS), batteries and mobile phones. This smelled of drug trafficking by sea. The two accomplices were arrested by members of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in charge of border surveillance.
After conducting research, it turned out that the Franco-Algerian, aged 39, was wanted by the French authorities who had issued an international arrest warrant against him since July 2012. So he had been on the run for 7 years. This red notice concerns links with a criminal network specializing in international drug and psychotropic trafficking, in Morocco and France.
The Franco-Algerian and his accomplice were brought before the competent prosecutor’s office for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking at the national level. But the DGSN also initiated, according to the same press release, coordination procedures with the French security authorities, within the framework of international cooperation, regarding this case.
