French Driver Sentenced for Using Moroccan Friend’s License to Evade 300 Fines

The Rennes judicial court sentenced a resident of the small town of Gévezé (Ille-et-Vilaine) to 18 months in prison with a suspended sentence for using the data of a driver’s license of a friend, residing in Morocco, in order to avoid receiving fines after road offenses.
It all started with the suspicions of the authorities. In 2022, an investigation was thus opened. It was entrusted to the automated center for the detection of road traffic offenses (CACIR) and the research brigade of Montfort-sur-Meu, under the direction of the Rennes public prosecutor’s office at the automated center for the detection of road traffic offenses (CNT). The investigators discovered that the suspect had committed multiple frauds to the detriment of a public person, by selling the driver’s license information of one of his relatives living in Morocco, reports Ouest France. They were able to record nearly 300 traffic offenses, mainly speeding, in Brittany. Identity theft has benefited about ten members of his entourage. The fraud is estimated at 15,000 € to 60,000 €.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. After his arrest, his referral was ordered. He is accused of having orchestrated these fraudulent designations en masse for years. Tried before the Rennes judicial court, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison with a suspended sentence.
