French Defense Minister Makes Historic Visit to Morocco, Bolstering Military Ties

The French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, is on a working visit to Morocco on February 6. The French Ministry of the Armed Forces, in a press release, stressed that in 8 years, this is the first official visit of a French Minister of the Armed Forces to the kingdom.
The Minister plans to meet with her Moroccan counterpart in charge of national defense administration, Abdellatif Loudyi. "These exchanges will allow to take stock of the Franco-Moroccan bilateral relationship in the field of defense, as well as on regional issues," the press release states.
The ministers will in particular discuss cooperation on the African continent. These include the Sahel and Libyan files, which are two subjects for which Morocco occupies a strategic position.
Another one-on-one meeting on Florence Parly’s agenda is an interview with the Inspector General of the Moroccan Armed Forces, Army Corps General Abdelfattah Louarak, in order "to discuss ways to strengthen military cooperation".
The French Ministry of the Armed Forces specifies in its press release that this trip will allow Florence Parly to reaffirm France’s interest in strengthening its cooperation in all areas with Morocco.
