French Court Upholds Rape Charges Against Islamic Scholar Tariq Ramadan

Tariq Ramadan remains prosecuted by the French justice system for the two rape cases. This is what the Paris Court of Appeal decided yesterday by rejecting the request to drop the two indictments filed by the Islamic scholar’s lawyers.
Yesterday, the investigating chamber confirmed the decision of the judges who had considered that the request was "premature". Tariq Ramadan remains therefore prosecuted for the two rapes, one of which was against a vulnerable person.
After long denying the sexual relations with the two plaintiffs, the Islamic scholar has finally acknowledged them, pleading for consensual relations of domination by the two women, one nicknamed Christelle whose alleged acts took place in October 2009 in Lyon and a former Salafist who became a secular activist, Henda Ayari, in Paris in 2012.
In addition to these two cases, the former university professor has faced a complaint in Switzerland since April 2018 that has led to the opening of an investigation in Geneva, but so far he has not yet been heard.
Suffering from multiple sclerosis, Tariq Ramadan was released last November after paying a bail of 300,000 euros and handing over his Swiss passport.
