French Court to Rule on Controversial Imam’s Expulsion Order

The Paris Administrative Court is examining the expulsion order of Hassan Iquioussen, issued by the Ministry of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, in July 2022. This decisive hearing will determine the possibility for the imam to return to France.
Imam Iquioussen, born in northern France, is accused of making anti-Semitic and misogynistic remarks in videos posted online. His alleged proximity to the Muslim Brotherhood and his status as an "S" file by the DGSI (General Directorate of Internal Security) have reinforced the arguments in favor of his expulsion.
Fearing sanctions, the imam fled France for Belgium. But the Belgian authorities then sent him back to Morocco, the country of origin of his parents.
Maître Lucie Simon, Iquioussen’s lawyer, firmly rejects the accusations against her client. She claims that the incriminating videos have been truncated and distort his remarks. She insists on the evolution of the imam’s thinking and denies his dangerousness. Her goal is clear: to obtain the cancellation of the expulsion order and allow Iquioussen’s return to France, with restrictions if necessary.
