French Citizenship Denied Over Concerns of Wife’s ’Submission’ in Marriage

The Council of State refused French nationality to a man who has been married for years to a French woman. And for good reason, his "way of life" is "characterized by the submission of his wife," which "does not correspond to the values of French society."
"It appears from the elements in the file, in particular the remarks he made during the interviews conducted by the officials of the prefecture of Oise in charge of the investigation of his file, that Mr. A... adopts a way of life characterized by the submission of his wife which does not correspond to the values of French society, in particular the equality between the sexes," explains the Council.
And to continue: "Under these conditions, the Prime Minister did not make an inaccurate application of Article 21-4 of the Civil Code in considering that Mr. A... could not be considered assimilated to French society and in consequently opposing his acquisition of French nationality."
