French Business Leaders Urged to Resist Boycotts Over Macron’s Islam Comments

The remarks of President Emmanuel Macron on Islam, on the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad, during the tribute paid to the professor Samuel Paty, have led to demonstrations and calls for a boycott of French products in the Muslim world. On RMC on Monday morning, the president of Medef, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, called on companies to hold firm and "resist blackmail".
The head of the employers’ association encourages French companies to put their principles before the possibility of developing business. Despite the calls for a boycott, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux invites business leaders not to engage in a reciprocal boycott. "Let’s not respond to stupidity with stupidity. It is not a question of boycotting anyone, it is a question of sticking to our republican values." For him, the boycott is "for the moment quite localized" and he does not currently need public assistance to support companies.
The Muslim world is angry with Emmanuel Macron for having promised that France would continue in the same vein as the professor, with regard to the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad. A promise that is poorly accepted by ordinary citizens but also in many predominantly Muslim countries.
