French Air Traffic Strike Threatens Flights to Morocco, Causing Major Disruptions

French air traffic will experience disruptions this Tuesday, December 17, with possible consequences for travelers to Morocco. A social movement by air traffic controllers will lead to cancellations and delays at several airports in the country, including some serving the kingdom.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has announced that a strike notice has been filed by the SNCTA, the majority union of air traffic controllers, for this day. This social movement will affect the air navigation services of Lyon, Ajaccio and Montpellier.
If your flight departs from Lyon Saint-Exupéry, disruptions are to be expected. The DGAC has asked airlines to reduce their flight schedule by 60% between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The situation is even more critical in Montpellier: the air navigation services will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. the next day. This will result in the cancellation of all flights departing and arriving at the airports of Montpellier, Nîmes and Perpignan.
At the origin of this social movement, a conflict between the SNCTA and the DSNA (Directorate of Air Navigation Services) concerning the organization of work for 2025. The union denounces "the abrupt halt to negotiations" and "the lack of visibility" for air traffic controllers. "Forgetting respect and social dialogue, the DSNA chooses rupture," reads a statement from the SNCTA.
Before going to the airport, it is therefore strongly recommended to inquire with your airline about the status of your flight, especially if you have to take a flight departing from Lyon or Montpellier. The DGAC also recommends that passengers postpone their trip if possible.
