Franco-Moroccan Midfielder Benrahou Shifts Focus from National Team to Club Career

A volte-face on the part of the Franco-Moroccan Yassine Benrahou who has just set aside his choice of a national team by saying he wants to focus on his current club, Girondins de Bordeaux.
The information is reported by the newspaper Al Akhbar and cited by the site le360. It is therefore to be taken with caution. Thus, it is said, the player has renounced wearing the colors of Morocco even if the latter has repeatedly expressed his desire to wear the jersey of the Atlas Lions. Until now, he was playing in the under-20 team.
Last year, he was talking about his choice of Morocco by talking about discovering a new football. "It’s not a decision, because for me the question doesn’t come up yet to choose between France and Morocco. I have very good memories with France. With Morocco, I mainly wanted to discover a new football, a new way of playing, African football. With the French team we are often able to play against European teams, but I wanted to discover something else," the player said on the Footmercato website.
Yassine Benrahou has already worn the colors of Morocco in two matches against Mauritania to soak up the atmosphere within the group. But the player regrets, it is said, the atmosphere within the French team, especially when he was playing in the under-17s.
"I’m putting this selection choice aside for now, to better focus on my club Girondins de Bordeaux. In any case, if my level drops, I won’t be eligible for selection anyway," the player minimizes.
As long as the Franco-Moroccan does not play for the national first team, he can change his sporting nationality as he wishes. The choice is therefore not final and the performance of the Atlas Lions at the next Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for next month could change the situation and perhaps give him the desire to wear the Moroccan jersey again.
