Franco-Moroccan Candidate Barred from French Overseas By-Election over Campaign Finance Issues

The Franco-Moroccan Ahmed Eddarraz, former candidate for the French legislative elections in the 9th constituency of French citizens abroad (which includes Morocco), will not be able to participate in the new by-elections to be held in April.
Seized last November by the National Commission for Campaign Accounts and Political Financing, the Constitutional Council declared Ahmed Eddarraz, a candidate in the June 2022 elections in the 9th constituency of French citizens living abroad, ineligible for three years. This decision is motivated in particular by the shortcomings noted on the candidate’s campaign accounts. He is also accused of not having filed the campaign accounts and not having returned the receipt-donation booklets.
This decision by the council de facto prevents Ahmed Eddarraz from participating in the next electoral deadlines scheduled for Sunday, April 2 (1st round) and Sunday, April 16 (second round). Karim Ben Cheikh (NUPES candidate) had emerged victorious from the previous election before its annulment by the constitutional council chaired by former minister Laurent Fabius.
