Franco-Moroccan Activist Honored Among 109 ’Mariannes’ for International Women’s Day

As part of the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Deputy Minister to the Minister of the Interior, in charge of Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa, is initiating an exhibition to "pay tribute to (women) who, in 2021, are the new diverse faces of our Republic, of citizenship and of commitment". Franco-Moroccan Latifa Ibn Ziaten is one of the 109 Mariannes of the Republic.
This distinction planned for March 8 wants to pay tribute to the particular journey of this mother who was able to transform the loss of her son Imad, during the attacks in Toulouse and Montauban in 2012, into a force and a source of inspiration hailed by many people.
Since the creation of the Imad Association for Youth and Peace, the Franco-Moroccan activist, of Muslim faith, works for the rooting of fraternity among thousands of young people, in order to participate in the fight against all forms of obscurantism and extremism.
Latifa Ibn Ziaten’s dedication to the common cause has already earned her several distinctions. The latest is the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity, awarded by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayyeb. This is also the main reason for her choice to be among the 109 Mariannes. Fresh blood for the Republic that must necessarily be promoted with several other women from all backgrounds. Latifa Ibn Ziaten declares herself "very honored and touched" by this gesture full of meaning.
