A talent left on the bench

Zaïre-Emery had nevertheless tried to defuse the subject in a press conference. He acknowledged that it was "always frustrating not to play," while recalling the strong competition in midfield. He even explained being ready to fill in at any position, with a revealing phrase: "as long as I play."

The problem for him is that he does not seem to be considered a real solution by Didier Deschamps. At right-back, the coach would never have seen him as a serious option. In midfield, the hierarchy also appears very closed, with several players ahead of him.

This management raises questions as the match against Morocco approaches. France has a very rich bench, but certain talents remain underutilized. Zaïre-Emery embodies this depth sometimes difficult to manage: a young, versatile player, accustomed to the highest level, but relegated to the rank of distant solution.

The injury to Aurélien Tchouaméni to his adductors could however open a small window. Against Paraguay, it was Zaïre-Emery who went to warm up in the second half, not N’Golo Kanté. But he ultimately did not come on.
