France Urges Dialogue as Morocco-Algeria Tensions Escalate, Ambassador Calls Situation ’Regrettable’

The French Ambassador to Morocco, Hélène Le Gal, described the situation between Morocco and Algeria as "very regrettable".
In an interview with Hespress, on the occasion of the inauguration of the new youth media library of the French Institute in Marrakech, the diplomat commented on the tensions between the kingdom and its eastern neighbor.
Expressing her regret at the turn of events, she declared: "We wish there to be peace and understanding between all the countries of the Maghreb", hoping that "in the weeks and months to come, the two countries find the path of dialogue because that is the only thing to do so that the Algerian and Moroccan peoples can move forward together".
Regarding the state of diplomacy between her country and Morocco, Le Gal felt that "the relations between Morocco and France are centuries-old, which can be described as "exceptional". They are nourished by a human bond between the two countries, which is very deep and concerns many people and which each one carries".
And to add that "this relationship is renewed each time. We are very happy to be able to renew it now with a new government that has just been set up in Morocco, and with which the various French ministers will be able to work on many subjects in the months to come".
