France Upholds Steep Tuition Hike for Non-EU Students, Including Moroccans

The French Council of State validated, on Wednesday, the controversial increase in registration fees for non-EU students, including Moroccans. The supreme administrative court thus rejects the appeal of several associations.
This decision, taken by decree in November 2018, has only been applied by a few universities so far. It now imposes on non-European Union foreigners 2,770 euros for registration fees in bachelor’s and 3,770 euros in master’s, compared to 170 euros and 243 euros respectively for young Europeans.
As soon as the decree was published, several associations opposed this increase in registration fees. They filed an appeal with the Council of State, which examined them on June 12 last.
Unsurprisingly, the highest administrative court has handed down its verdict and rejected their requests. According to the Council of State, aid is granted to students. According to the administrative judge, international students may be eligible for some of them. They can also benefit from a "total or partial exemption from the registration fees charged to them", specifies the same source.
