France Unveils Travel Traffic Light System: Morocco, US in Orange Zone

France has classified countries like Morocco, the United States in the orange zone and other countries in the green or red zone. This classification is part of the government’s policy on welcoming foreign tourists for this summer.
"We have to reconcile the principle of mobility with the principle of health security because nothing would be worse than falling back into another Covid wave in a few weeks or a few months because we would not have taken enough precautions," said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State for Tourism, on RMC and BFMTV. In this sense, the government "has worked on color codes" by classifying "countries into three zones": green, orange, red, he added.
Morocco and all of Africa except South Africa are classified in the orange zone. This zone "concerns the majority of countries in the world," said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. These are countries "where the circulation of the virus still exists but is under control and where there is no worrying variant," explains the French official. However, access for tourists from these countries is subject to the following conditions: being vaccinated, presenting a negative PCR test less than 72 hours old or an antigen test less than 48 hours old.
The countries "where there is no active circulation of the virus or worrying variant" are classified in the green zone, the Secretary of State for Tourism also specified.
