France to Release 43 Convicted Jihadists in 2020, Minister Announces Monitoring Measures

In total, 43 jihadists convicted in France will be released in 2020, and around 60 in 2021. This was announced by Nicole Belloubet, the Minister of Justice.
The Minister of Justice assures that these jihadists will be monitored. "They are subject to a dual measure: judicial supervision which means they are taken care of upon release and administrative surveillance measures," she specified. She added that the intelligence services are closely monitoring them.
The measure already applies to Flavien Moreau, convicted upon his return from Syria. He had received a sentence of seven years in prison in November 2014. His release is also accompanied by various obligations and prohibitions.
The French right intends to extend the security detention, which currently only exists for inmates convicted of murder, to persons convicted of terrorism.
