France Introduces New Online Process for Foreign Student Visa Renewals

"The application for a residence permit with the mention "student" or "student-mobility program" is made online on the website of the digital administration of foreigners in France (ANEF)," specifies the prefect of the North in a press release published on the French government website. A flyer is made available to them to better understand the procedure to follow. They are also recommended to watch a video available on the Campus France website.

The renewal application "must be filed between 2 to 4 months before the expiration of your residence permit," specifies the same source, adding that late applicants will be fined 180 euros. "Any incomplete file may be subject to a refusal to register or closure," warns the prefectural authority. It is suggested that foreign students who do not yet have their university registration and for whom the 2-month deadline is approaching file their application online by providing proof of pre-registration or any proof related to their study project for the coming year.

What about the process? "During your application, you will receive a confirmation of filing. During the processing of your application, a prolongation of instruction certificate (ADP) will be issued to you; it will be available in your personal ANEF space. This certificate extends the effects of your visa or residence permit," explains the same source. The home stretch? "Finally, when the prefecture has validated your application, a favorable decision certificate will be issued to you; it will be available in your personal ANEF space until your residence permit is available," concludes the press release.
