France Intensifies Crackdown on Radical Islamism: 73 Religious Sites Closed in 2023

The figures on the fight against separatism and "singularly, against radical Islamism" were published by the Minister of the Interior and his delegate minister for citizenship. This was during the inaugural presentation of the results of the ministerial action on Tuesday, October 13.
For the month of September, "650 control operations were carried out" during the field operations of the departmental cells to fight against terrorism and community withdrawal (CLIR), said the delegate minister for citizenship, Marlène Schiappa.
The controls carried out made it possible to establish 200,000 euros in adjustments for the CAF and 3.5 million euros in adjustments for the URSSAF, the minister said. "Not a penny should go to support separatism and radical Islamism and we are putting the means of control and coercive action in place to ensure that this is the case," she hammered, before adding that these controls will be "intensified".
In total, "12 places of radicalization" including places of worship, associative structures or drinking establishments were closed during the month of September, revealed the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin. For the year 2020, a total of 73 places have been closed, apart from the Bobigny association accused of being a "clandestine school" by the state services, said the occupant of the Place Beauvau.
