France Eases Visa Restrictions for Moroccan Truck Drivers After Trade Talks

Transport professionals (TIR) can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The lobbying of Moroccan exporters with the French authorities after their decision to restrict visas for truck drivers in particular seems to have paid off.
Moroccan truck drivers are "pleasantly surprised by the turn of events" after the meeting on November 22 between the French Minister Delegate to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in charge of Foreign Trade and Attractiveness, Franck Riester, and the President of the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (CGEM), Chakib Alj.

During this meeting, "the Moroccan employers’ association had strongly insisted on the many difficulties encountered in visa application procedures by Moroccan companies, particularly the actors and operators of International Road Transport (TIR)," says Les Inspirations Éco, recalling that the French official assured on that occasion that "it will be possible to obtain the visa whenever the applicant has a solid, regular and practical file".

In return, "transport companies must constantly ensure compliance with the rules of the game, such as avoiding certain non-transparent practices". This is why the two parties have agreed to "set up a specific and clear procedure, based on a specification that will be developed through a participatory approach, to facilitate the filing of visa applications as well as their obtaining and to deal with the various practices contrary to ethics".
