France Eases Retirement Rules for Moroccan Immigrant Workers, Allowing Return Home

The Chibanis can feel great relief, as they will enjoy their retirement while remaining settled in Morocco, their country of origin. This measure was taken by the French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe.
The Chibanis are Moroccan workers who have immigrated to France and spent their entire professional life there until they retired. Consequently, in order to enjoy the social protection and retirement to which they were entitled from the French state, they had to reside in the Hexagon. Indeed, they had the choice between returning to Morocco and then forgetting their retirement, and staying in France to enjoy it far from their loved ones.
Fortunately for them, the 2019 Finance Act has seen an amendment that came into force on July 1st. This change took place in the context of the Draft Social Security Budget in France for this year. This allows 175,000 Moroccan retirees, settled in the Hexagon for many years, to enjoy their retirement rights while remaining in Morocco.
More generally, 330,000 retirees belonging to the first generation of migrants, including Algerians, Moroccans and Tunisians, will be able to benefit from the positive impact of this measure of the French Government.
