France deports Mohamed Akrafi, who provided lodging to Philippe Monguillot’s killers

The Moroccan was due to stand trial there for “assisting criminals in evading arrest” for having housed Wyssem Manai and Maxime Guyennon after the murder of bus driver Philippe Monguillot in Bayonne in 2020. It was at Akrafi’s home that the three men were arrested. Manai and Guyennon were sentenced to 15 and 13 years in prison in September 2023, reports Francebleu.

The case of Mohamed Akrafi had been separated from theirs because of psychiatric disorders (tremors, difficulty following the proceedings). His criminal record also included convictions for theft and refusing to obey orders in Alès in January 2024.

His lawyer, Me Sandrine Larié, had declared herself “ready to plead his case” for this trial, which was to take place without a jury, as the charges constituted a misdemeanor. The deportation makes the subsequent legal proceedings in France uncertain. Mr. Akrafi is currently in Casablanca.
