France Closes 24 Mosques, Expels 800 Foreigners Under Anti-Separatism Law

Since the passage and promulgation of the "separatism" law in August 2021 in France, hundreds of establishments, places of worship have been closed and more than 800 foreigners have been expelled on suspicion of radicalization. This is the assessment made on Friday by the French Minister of the Interior, Gérard Darmanin.

According to the statements of the Minister of the Interior, the assessment of the "separatism" law is rather encouraging, one year after its promulgation. He talks about 99 prayer rooms that have been checked out of 2,623 listed on the national territory. In total, 24 mosques suspected of "hosting separatist preaching" have been checked and closed. Over time, 8 mosques have been authorized to reopen, and 16 remain closed to this day, reports tf1info.

Similarly, thousands of checks have been carried out and have led to the temporary or permanent closure of 836 establishments, the recovery or adjustment of 55.9 million euros and 551 reports. He also stressed that seven "Islamist" associations have been dissolved. Darmanin cited among others the CCIF and Baraka City, two associations dissolved two years ago following the assassination of teacher Samuel Paty.

Among the cases of expulsion, there is the highly publicized case of the Moroccan imam Hassan Iquioussen. It is on October 21 that the Belgian justice will have to rule on the case of the preacher arrested in September in Belgium. He was arrested following a European arrest warrant issued by France after an expulsion order validated a month earlier by the Council of State.
