France Closes 9 Mosques in Crackdown on Islamist Separatism

Nine mosques have been closed in France in recent weeks as part of the fight against separatism, the French Interior Minister, Gérard Darmanin, announced on Saturday. These places of worship have been closed to Muslim worshippers for "administrative" reasons and for "non-compliance with safety standards".
"Among the 18 places of worship that were particularly monitored at my request, 9 were able to be closed," Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin tweeted on Friday, January 15. He then added that the government is taking determined action against Islamist separatism.
This decision comes a few days after his statement on the monitoring of mosques. For the minister, nearly 80 mosques were the subject of massive action and checks.
These mosques are located in Montmagny, Goussainville (Val-d’Oise), Thiers (Puy-de-Dôme), Villeneuve-Saint-Georges (Val-de-Marne) and Le Pré-Saint-Gervais (Seine-Saint-Denis), report some French media.
