France Bans Veiled Mothers from School Trips in New ’Separatism’ Law Amendment

Veiled mothers will no longer be able to accompany their children on school outings in France. On Tuesday, senators imposed this measure, thus making unexpected amendments to the law on "separatism".
Henceforth, the ban on students in public schools, colleges and high schools from wearing conspicuous religious symbols also applies to "persons who participate in school outings, activities related to education inside or outside the establishments, organized by these public local schools and educational establishments". This ban delights the Rassemblement national, whose elected representative from Bourgogne-Franche Comté had asked a veiled woman accompanying young students to remove her veil during a session of the Regional Council in October 2019. His request, criticized and criticized at the time, takes on its full meaning with this amendment by the senators, reports Le Muslim Post.
Even if the text does not highlight the veil, it is nevertheless this religious symbol that senators from the Les Républicains (LR) and Rassemblement démocratique et social européen (RDSE) formations have attacked. They argue that "religion has no place in a secular school". The French Minister of the Interior would have tried to explain that it was not necessary to vote for these amendments.
The other religious symbol that interests them is the burkini in municipal swimming pools. Banning it would be contrary to the discourse on the acceptance of differences, the fight against Islamophobia that the French president and the Minister of the Interior have been constantly advocating.
