France and Morocco to Forge New Economic Partnership, Ministers Announce

On a working visit to Morocco, Bruno Le Maire, French Minister of Economy and Finance, was in Rabat on Friday, January 31, 2020, at the office of the Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun. On the agenda of the exchanges, the establishment of a "new cooperation pact" between the two countries.

While Morocco is on the eve of developing a new development model, France has launched a new full employment productive pact by 2025. Buoyed by these economic reforms, the Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform believes that the two countries are converging together towards common goals, where they need to be competitive, not one and the other, but together. "This is the basis of this strengthened economic partnership that will take shape in the coming weeks," said Mohamed Benchaâboun.

"It is never easy to modify one’s taxation and to comply with European rules. It is difficult for France and for all states, but Morocco has taken the courageous decisions that were expected by the EU and the European Commission," praised Bruno Le Maire.

Regarding Franco-Moroccan economic cooperation, the French Minister of Economy and Finance proposed to "give it new momentum" through the establishment of "a new economic pact". This pact is based on the following foundations: rail transport, the automotive industry, aeronautics and environmental protection, carbon production, SMEs, new technologies, and opening up to Africa.
